Headline: Mandela fully recovered, back to normal routine --- Presidency

Mandela By Debo Oshundun Johannesburg, Jan. 7, 2013 (NAN) Former South African President Nelson Mandela has recovered fully from his surgery, says the country's Presidency. Mr Mac Maharaj, the Presidential spokesman, told newsmen on Sunday in Johannesburg, that Mandela was back to normal routine. ``The Presidency would like to inform the public that former President Nelson Mandela has recovered from his surgical procedure and lung infection.'' According to him, the medical team treating the former president said he was doing well. Maharaj also said that President Jacob Zuma had sent Mandela a goodwill message. He, however, said that Mandela would continue to receive medical care at his Houghton home in Johannesburg. Maharaj did not say when Mandela would return to Qunu, Eastern Cape, his home town. The Southern Africa Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Mandela was admitted into a Pretoria hospital on Dec. 8, where he underwent an operation to remove gallstone. He was also treated for recurrent lung infection. He was discharged on Dec. 26, 2012, to continue receiving treatment from his Johannesburg home.
