Lagos Police defend power-drunk cop who brutalized couple

A few days ago, the pictures of a couple who were brutalized by a policeman in Ikoyi went viral with the Police I.G ordering a full scale investigation into the issue. Now, the police in Lagos have said the 29-year-old photographer, Ejeh Smith, who was brutalised by a policeman attached to the Ikoyi Police Division along with his wife, Grace, was drunk on the night of the incident.
The police authorities added that the couple engaged the policeman in a scuffle, adding that since the incident happened, they had refused to make statements to the police.
According to  Punch, the police spokesman, Nwosu, while reacting to the reports, said the police had commenced disciplinary action against the corporal.It was learnt that Ogunsanya had spent 11 years in the Nigeria Police Force.He said....
“Investigation is ongoing because as a command, we are alive to our responsibility and we do not condone any act of incivility to members of the public
“However, the police corporal is alleging that the couple fought him in uniform. The man in question (Ejeh) was alleged to be drunk, and since that incident happened, he has refused to make statements to the police. If you have a good case, why will you say you don’t want to make statement?The Ikoyi DPO they are mentioning said she arrived at the scene and ordered all of them to be taken to the station. She was the one who even issued medical forms to them so they could go to the hospital.
“The man (Ejeh) told her (DPO) that he had taken her picture and would send it to his pastor to pray against her. I was told that he made the station uncomfortable. Can that be right? Is that the way to behave?We are interested in flushing out the bad eggs in the system and if this officer that has been accused is one of them, we will flush him out.”
He added that Ogunsanya had been transferred from the Ikoyi Division to the command headquarters where he was being detained.While reacting to the police claims, Ejeh said he was not drunk on the night of the incident, adding that the police were merely cooking up allegations against him
“I was not drunk that night because I was coming from Ikeja where I worked. I met my wife at Obalende from where we took the cab. I was not drunk at all.
“I also fault the claim that I fought with the policeman because nothing like that happened. He was the one who hit me with his rifle in the eye, so how can a man who could barely see fight again?
“And yes, I told them I couldn’t make statement because my eyesight had been affected. I cannot see with one eye right now. I told our family lawyer about this and he said he would write a petition where he will state the case for us.”
, Ejeh Smith, and his wife, Grace, were on their way home in a taxi they boarded at Obalende. The cab was reportedly stopped at the Lekki Roundabout by a team of policemen patrolling the area.According to the taxi driver, Ndubuisi Iheaka, the police corporal checked the boot of the car before demanding his driving licence.Iheaka said while he was about getting the driving licence, Ogunsanya decided to beam his torchlight on his passengers.The couple was said to have protested the action, telling him that the inner lights of the vehicle, which were on, was enough for him to see their faces.

The policeman reportedly asked them to alight after which an argument ensued, which degenerated into a scuffle.In the process, Ogunsanya allegedly punched Ejeh in the face and also allegedly hit him in the face with the butt of his rifle. He thereafter slapped Grace and stepped on her stomach.

The Ikoyi Divisional Police Officer, Mrs Aisha Haruna, who arrived at the scene was accused by the couple of backing the policeman’s action.

How woman raped and stabbed by man she met on Facebook revealed his identity before dying(Photos)

 A Romanian woman who was left for dead after being raped and stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver managed to tell police the identity of her alleged attacker before slipping into a coma.
Eliza Dragne, 30, met 29-year-old Nicu Alin Cristea on Facebook, where he claimed to be a humanitarian worker helping orphaned children.

In fact he was a newly married construction worker who persuaded Miss Dragne to go no a date with him and arranged to pick her up in his car.Miss Dragne had kept the new relationship secret from friends and family, who had no idea where she was going.

According to Dailymail,Cristea arrived as planned, but instead of driving to the bar the pair had picked for the date, he took her to a remote spot near Alexandria, southern Romanian, before attacking her, it is claimed.
According to police Miss Dragne was savagely beaten and raped, before being strangled and repeatedly stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver.

Thinking she was dead, Cristea took her mobile, logged in to her Facebook account, deleted all of his messages to her, then abandoned her in a field police say.But Miss Dragne survived the attack and crawled naked through the countryside to a main road were she caught the attention of a passing driver who called police.Investigators estimate that it could have taken her as long as two hours to reach the spot after being abandoned.

Friends had no idea about the relationship or the meeting, and so did not alert the authorities.
Because of the extent of her injuries, officers were forced to call for an air ambulance to take her to hospital in the capital of Bucharest. While she was being rushed to hospital she managed to reveal the identity of her alleged attacker to officers riding alongside her.

Shortly after arriving at Bagdasar-Arseni Hospital Miss Dragne slipped into a coma, and despite the efforts of surgeons, passed away.Meanwhile police officers had tracked down Cristea, and when they arrived at his home, found him in the middle of a one month anniversary party with wife Elena, 28
He initially denied ever having met the victim, but was told by officers that she had lived long enough to name him as the attacker.
A judge ruled that Cristea be kept in prison for a month while police continue their investigation.
Since news of the arrest, other alleged victims of Cristea have come forward claiming that they were also assaulted by him.
One woman, who has not been named, said he came to her house to do some building work, but when he realised she was alone, he raped her.
She claimed she was left with a fractured skull and broken hand after the attack, and was terrified that if she went to the police he would return and kill her.

Head of the Hunters has been arrested for Killing Boko Haram?

 #FreeSarkinBaka: By Riot or Revolution
I ask you, what will you do if it was your hometown?
If your brothers or mothers had been so thoroughly let down.
Six whole years;
Six buckets full of tears;
Crippled, orphaned and dead;
Everywhere painted a crimson red!
We live in fear;
Life, no longer dear.
I ask, what will you do if your sisters were abducted as forced concubines;
And the chiefs of staff were seen, billions of looted dollars bloated raising glasses of expensive wines.
If your president danced as bombs blew;
I ask, what will you do?
Will you let the hunters and vigilantes who liberated you, down?
And wait for an army led by a greedy clown?
Did I hear you say you believed in justice?
But Sarkin Baka fought for you, liberated you, where are your voices?
The army should be called to do something?
It’s been six long years, they didn’t do nothing!
Unless you call tactical maneuvers…
Your recommendation to liberate your abducted sisters.
The army chief who struck a phantom ceasefire;
Is the one on whose neck should be put the tire!
Surely, better than this the Lord requires.
For when a man goes to defend another man;
And the Government decides to clamp him down;
Then be it riot or revolution!
It’s time for a real solution!

Health of boy viciously attacked by dogs worsens

The condition of four-year-old Omonigho Abraham, who was attacked by two dogs in the Igando area of Lagos State about a month ago, has reportedly worsened in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja where he is currently receiving treatment.
Punch learnt from his father, Odia, that Omonigho’s scalp which was torn off by the German shepherd dogs during the gruesome attack, had not healed and had been giving off an offensive odour.He said this had given the family serious concern and attempts to get the medical report of his condition had also been frustrated by some medical officers in the hospital.
He said....

 “My boy still complains of pains in different parts of his body. Also, when they open the bandage on his head, you will see that there is no much difference. It’s still like the first time the incident happened.In fact, for up to two weeks no consultant or doctor attended to him, and his head started smelling.In fact, for up to two weeks no consultant or doctor attended to him, and his head started smelling.We have been told he may still have to be admitted for six months or up to one year, for the doctors to do a skin-grafting surgery on his open skull. They will cut skin from parts of his body, to cover up the skull.”
He added that he had also continued to foot the bills of the boy, despite the instruction of the state government to the hospital management not to collect any money for his expenses.

Our correspondent gathered that a non-governmental organisation had to raise money for Omonigho’s drugs and over N100, 000 had been purportedly spent in buying drugs, among other expenses.The report of a fundraising for Omonigho’s medical expenses was said to have angered the management of LASUTH who allegedly accused Odia of making money off his son’s predicament.

The father of three told our correspondent he was called into a meeting on Tuesday in which the management of the hospital promised to start implementing the state government’s pledge to the Abrahams.

He said,
“The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Health, has already played its part by writing a letter to LASUTH that it would foot all the bills for which we are grateful.
“But when the letter got to them, they did not implement it. I was still buying the drugs till yesterday (Tuesday) that I was exhausted and I cried out that I did not have any money to buy drugs again.
“That was when the management of the hospital led by the Chief Medical Director, apologised and promised to start implementing the state government’s order.I have decided to wait for at least a week and see if they will change, like they promised.”
Odia said the Delta State Government and a few other people were interested in the medical report which had not been issued to him.
“The real issue I have now is that they (LASUTH) have not released the medical report which I asked for since October 16. They (LASUTH) have been directing me from one person to another and I am getting tired. If I see the report, I will know what exactly to do about this issue.”

How man was pushed to commit suicide over N1000 theft in Ebonyi

A 32-year-old man, Mr. Simon Mbam, of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has committed suicide after he was tortured by some villagers for allegedly stealing N1,000 from a shop in the market.
The victim, who jumped into a pond in the area last weekend, found himself in the mess when he left his house in the evening of the fateful day to buy drinks with his friends.
While late Simon and his friends were busy sipping their drinks, the owner of the shop raised an alarm over a missing N1,000 in his carton of drinks, but no customer admitted to haven taken the money.
The alarm raised by the shop owner attracted villagers who stormed the scene and gave the suspects till the following day to return the money or face the consequences.

According to Vanguard, It was learned that the said missing money was found at the door step of the shop, but when the villagers who were determined to get to the root of the matter gathered, the owner of the shop insisted on knowing the person behind the act.
The suspect, who later confessed to the crime, was allegedly beaten by the irate villagers until he started bleeding and losing consciousness.
They demanded that he should be treated like a thief, even as he was fined two goats, two crates of beer and N5,000, which were immediately provided by the suspect’s mother (names withheld).
It was gathered that the village head rejected what the suspect’s mother brought, insisting that an additional N5,000 should be provided so that the matter would be completely resolved without involving the police.
This second demand by the villagers made the suspect, who felt humiliated by the entire process, escape from his captors and jumped into Aku Pond, which was not far from the market square.
All efforts to rescue him on time proved abortive as he drowned before his body was retrieved by the villagers.
Meanwhile, four persons including the village head, had been arrested by the police after the mother of the victim reported the matter.
