Brave guard kills armed robber with bandits’ gun

Cross River CP, Osita Ezechukwu
A security man, Joseph Ogbor, attached to Tonimas Filling Station along Okuku Road in Ogoja, Cross River State, has killed an armed robber with a gun brought by the bandit to raid the station.
Manager of the station, who identified himself simply as Sunny, said some robbers came in at about 2am last Friday, armed with machetes and guns to cart away “the money we made.”
Sunny, who spoke with our correspondent on Monday, said, “When they got here our security man confronted them and they got angry and descended on him. He had fractures on his right leg and skull.”
He further explained that after the beating, the robbers thought the watchman was dead as they abandoned him on the floor.
He said they also forgot one of their guns, a pump action riffle.
Sunny said, “After they left, the watchman regained consciousness and saw the gun on the floor. He crawled and picked it up.
“Half an hour later, the hoodlums came back for their gun apparently after they had discovered that it was missing. As they approached the place where the security man was lying with his broken limb, the man fired  and killed one of them.
“As the others made to escape,he shot again and got another on the leg but he managed to scale through the fence and escaped along with the others.
“We called in the police and handed over the gun to them.”
At Ogoja Divisional Police Station, the Divisional Crime Officer declined to give the name of the robber and other information.
He said, “If we do this, we will be letting the cat out of the bag and eventually jeopardise our investigations.”
However, the state Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Umoh, who confirmed the incident, said he did not have the details yet.
Umoh said, “It happened last week, I cannot give you the details now but I can confirm that we are investigating the case.”
