Gunmen kidnap NTA reporter in Akure

Gunmen

A member of staff of the Nigerian Television Authority in Akure, Mrs. Bunmi Oke, was on Thursday evening, kidnapped in Akure, the Ondo State capital by unknown gunmen.
Our correspondent learnt that Oke was returning home from work when four gunmen double-crossed her car in front of the Motherless Babies Home on Akure-Oba-Ile Road and ordered other occupants out of her vehicle.
It was learnt that her maid and one of her kids in the car with her were forced out while they drove her to unknown destination through Oba-Ile Road.
Oke’s colleague, Mrs. Kemi Fakeye, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the victim’s mother, simply called Mrs Lawal, on Friday received a telephone message from the kidnappers, demanding a ransom of N8m for her release.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, has expressed sadness over the development.
A statement by the Secretary of the council, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Friday lamented the abduction of Oke, who was described as a nursing mother.
The NUJ said, “Oke was abducted shortly after she read the news on NTA that evening and was with her child and housemaid when she was abducted and driven away in her car, with the baby and maid dropped from the car.
“Her car has since been recovered along Igbara-Oke road at the outskirts of Akure, leading to the suspicion that she may have been taken outside the state to an unknown destination.”
