[ Masterweb Reports ] - In spite of the immunity enjoyed by Gov. Peter Obi and his being Chief Security Officer of the State, he was today prevented from moving freely around the state because of the ongoing governorship election. When newsmen visited the Government Lodge yesterday, Gov. Obi was busy tending to files. When asked why he was holed up in the lodge, he explained it was due to the restriction imposed on non-election movement in the state by security agents.
Obi who however left the Lodge at 11:50 am for accreditation at his house in Agulu, had to do so with police clearance. None of his security was with him as police men on election duty escorted him to his house and back to the lodge. Speaking to press, Obi said he had no problem with the arrangement and supports any measure taken to guarantee free and fair election at all times. He however said though he had no idea while the restriction should affect him as the Chief Security Officer of the state, but saw it as part of sacrifice for the sanctity of the electoral process.
Commenting on the restriction of Mallam El Rufai, Obi who confessed to hearing it for the first time, wondered what he left Katsina to do in Anambra State. He said the restriction of movement, affected everyone and should be understood as part of measures to ensure free and fair election. He wondered why some Nigerians enjoy putting up reckless behaviour that put Nigeria in disrepute.
Speaking further on El Rufai’s ‘election’ journey to Anambra, Obi said that if his party needed to monitor the election, that they have capable people from the East that would do that. He said that as an APGA chieftain, he would not go to Katsina to monitor election except it is presidential election. “If El Rufai wanted to monitor election, he should apply properly through INEC and get accredited and not putting up reckless behaviour that bring bad name to the country", Obi added.
