Police investigate attack on Acting Governor of Zamfara

Zamfara - The Police Command in Zamfara says it has started investigation into the attack on the motorcade of the acting Governor of the state, Sanusi Rikiji, on Saturday.

The Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for the Police Command in the state, Dsp Lawal Abdullahi made the disclosure on Sunday while speaking with newsmen in Birnin-Magaji .



Abdullahi, who described the attack as “unfortunate”, said that the police would not fold its arms and allow such unbecoming behaviours by the youths.

He said that the police had deployed troops of mobile and regular police to maintain peace in the area.

The police image maker assured that anyone found involved in the attack would face "the full wrath of the law’’.

The youths in their hundreds on Saturday, attacked Rikiji’s motorcade in Birnin-magajiin, headquarters of Birnin-magaji Local Government Area of the state.

Eyewitness told Amebo that the angry youths took the decision in response to what they described as the "poor security provision in the state’’, among other grievances.

Rikiji, who is also the speaker of the State House of Assembly, was in the area to condole the families of three Fulani youths allegedly killed on Thursday by youths of Tudun-Kuya village in the local government.

The killers of the three deceased were said to have suspected them of being members of "the Fulani killer gangs’’ said to be terrorising villages in different parts of the state.

Amebo also gathered that the youths used stones and sticks on their visitors and it took the combined efforts of the police escort, the military and SSS, who shot into the air to disperse the moB.
