Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson Came Together For the NYC Premiere of Their Film, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete
Two of the music’s biggest powerhouses came together last night for the premiere of their upcoming film, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York City and they sure made a powerful statement. Alicia Keys,
the executive producer and the film’s score composer, spoke fondly of
the film stating how important it was to work on the project. “I think
as a native New Yorker and just as a person who loves emotional pieces
that are going to connect with people, I think it’s really important to
be able to talk about what is authentic and real, and I think this
experience of these two boys trying to survive the summer in Brooklyn is
something that no matter where you’re from or where you grew up, you
can relate to the struggle and the hope.” The drama stars Academy Award
winning actress Jennifer Hudson
as a drug addict mother, who after being apprehended by police
authorities, leaves her 14-year-old son alone to fend for himself and
survive in the inner city. “It was terrifying,” Hudson told InStyle.com
about taking on the character. “I was nervous down to the last second
because it was the furthest thing from myself and I’ve never portrayed a
role like it.” And if you were wondering, both Keys and Hudson were
caught singing by director George Tillman Jr. “[Hudson] breaks out in
song all the time,” Keys said. “She was obviously on set a little more
than I was, but yes, we love to sing.” Does this mean a musical duet in
the near future? Keys answered, “It will happen, you never know.” We’re
counting on it! The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete opens in theaters everywhere on October 11th.
