For instance some strange persons numbering among over 500 brought into the polling units located at Oval Square, opposite the palace of the traditional ruler of Igbariam, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nelly Nzekwe, in about three luxurious buses and other mini-buses mere yesterday arrested by the men of the Otuocha police station along with some other drivers conveying them.
One of them who gave his name as Mr. Bonaventure Ofiaeli, a trader in Jos Terminus Market told newsmen that they were mobilized by members of the Ifeanyi Ubah Fan Club, a campaign organisition for the oil magnate and gubernatorial aspirant under the Labour Party (LP) platform to come and register in the on-going voter re-validation exercise.
Ofiaeli , though an indigene of the state from Ozubulu in Ekwusigo local government, but, resident in Jos, said some members of the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil and Gas Limited hired free buses that conveyed them from Jos and took them to Igbariam for the registration exercise.
Others who were arrested, included one Mr. David Okonkwo who said he is an indigene of Obowo in Imo state, Mr. Jerome Onwudiwe from Eziowelle, Idemili- outh and Joseph Oyudo from Nibo, wka South local government area of the state, all resident in Jos but heading to Igbariam to be registered.
Some drivers of some of the luxurious buses, including, Mr. Ikechukwu Odika and Osita Nzeaka, drivers of G.U.O luxurios bus, and The Young Shall Grow Motors respectively confirmed they were directed by management of their companies to convey those persons to Igwe Igbariam’s palace.
When contacted on his mobile phone, manager of The Young Shall Grow Motors whose name was simply given as Ugo confirmed their luxurious buses were hired to convey those people from Jos to Igbariam at the instance of the Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah.
Chairman of Anambra East and Anambra West Transition Committee, MR. Cinedu Obidigwe told newsmen that some youths in the area alerted him about the presence of some strange persons being registered at the varius voter registration centres in their area, so he alerted police at Otuochaa.
One of the National Youth Service Corps members conducting the voter re-validation exercise in one of the centres at the Ovala Square , Mr. Alausa Olawale confirmed that they suddenly witnessed an upsurgre people seeking to be registered at their centre yesterday but that he could only register about 51 persons and promised the rest to come back.
He, however, stated that they warned the people about the dangers of multiple registration, but, said that they were compelled to register them since they did not have power under the law to deny eligible voter registration.
Meanwhile, Obidigwe said that Igwe Nzekwe has threatened him for reporting the incident to the police.
Igwe NN Kelly in response to phone calls from the chairman with regards to bursting the illegal registration sent a text message to Obidigwe which read thus,’’ this is the second time you are stepping into my kingdom with war to buy favour, but let me warn you before it starts , war has many forms , physical, Economic and spiritual and I am guru in all. Obidigwe, stated that sources close to the traditional ruler revealed to him that the traditional ruler and Ubah reached an agreement to import as many people as possible to various polling centres to be registered so that during the election, weather they voted or not they would have the opportunity of manipulating the votes they scored in such centres.
Driver of GUO with Registration no XH 756 A , Mr Ikechukwu Odi confirmed that there were too many people at Igbariam when they arrived by 4:30 pm Fridayand according to him , his company directed them to Igbariam to drop the cargo and bring them back from Lagos.
But Osita Nzeako said his company sent him on charter from Jos to Igbariam as that was all he knew.
A manager of one of the transport companies contacted on Phone confirmed that Ifeanyi Ubah Fan Club hired his luxurious buses from Jos to Igabriam and promised to reach out to him or Igwe Kelly to sort out the mess.
When contacted the image-maker of the Anambra state police command, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka stated that he was not aware of the development, but, promised to get across to the police at Otuocha for confirmation.
